Tanzania - a vast and mystical land with breathtaking scenery ranging from the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro to the plains of Serengeti National Park and one of the world's seven wonders - Ngorongoro Crater. NORTHERN CIRCUIT

DAY 1 Arusha - Tarangire National Park

In the morning you depart from Arusha with picnic lunch boxes and proceed to Tarangire National Park. This park has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord of predators and the one place in Tanzania where dry country antelope such as the stately fringed eared Oryx and peculiar long necked gerenuk are regularly observed.

Drive in the park to explore some of the 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and land crowd the shrinking lagoons. Afternoon break for picnic lunch. Then continue with game drive.

Leave Tarangire National Park at 16:00hrs and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for dinner and overnight stay at one of the Lodges or Campsites near the Park.

DAY 2 -- Lake Manyara National Park - Ngorongoro

After breakfast leave the lodge and drive into Lake Manyara National Park. The park supports a variety of habitats and a diversity of wildlife.

Visit the natural hot springs and try to observe the tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara National Park. In the afternoon return to your Lodge for hot lunch.

Leave Manyara and proceed to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight stay at one of the Lodges or Campsites.

DAY 3 -- Ngorongoro Crater Tour - Arusha

In the morning descend 610/2000ft down to the crater floor, with picnic lunch and spend the day game viewing.

This collapsed volcano is home to a large concentration of wildlife including lion, rhino, hippo, hyena and elephant.

In the afternoon take a short break to enjoy your picnic lunch at the picnic site. In the late-afternoon ascend the walls of the Crater climbing up to the rim, from where you will start to drive back to Arusha

DAY 1 Arusha -- Lake Serengeti - Ngorongoro

In the morning you will be picked up from your Hotel/Lodge in Arusha and driven 130kms with lunch boxes and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for afternoon game drive.

Start game viewing through underground water forest, proceed to acacia woodland savannah open land, pass by hot water spring and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park which is the home for many flamingoes and other water birds.

The Park also hosts tree-climbing lions, hippos, elephants, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, baboons, blue and velvet monkey, warthog and more. About 350 species of birds have been recorded.

In the afternoon there will be a break to have your picnic lunch, then leave the Park and drive to Ngorongoro to arrive on time for dinner and overnight stay in one of the lodges or campsite - superbly perched on the rim of the Crater.

DAY 2 -- Ngorongoro - National Park

Early morning breakfast in your lodge at Ngorongoro and then drive immediately to the Great Serengeti National Park with picnic lunch.

Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest's trek for fresh grazing yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant's gazelle.

Therefore as you leave the Ngorongoro you will continue with game drives en-route. Before reaching Seronera (an area located in the heart of Serengeti), you will continue to explore the vast rich-game animal plains of Serengeti National Park.

During the afternoon stop over for picnic lunch shortly before you continue with game drive. In the evening leave the Park and proceed to Seronera for dinner and overnight stay in one of the lodges or campsite.

DAY 3 Serengeti -- Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

Wake up for early morning breakfast and collect your picnic lunch. Drive across the Serengeti plains then to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, you immediately descend into the Crater base for a full day tour.

All the big five - rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo live in this wonderful caldera. Others are zebra, hippo, wildebeest, hyena, and more can be seen. The birdlife is so abundant and it includes many flamingoes round the Soda Lake, geese, storks and vultures.

Your lunch will be served at the picnic site in the Crater at Ngoitoktok Swamp which is a Hippo pool. After lunch drive back to Arusha arriving after sunset.

DAY 1 -- Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park

In the morning depart from your Hotel/Lodge in Arusha with packed lunch and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive. The most famous spectacle in the park is the tree-climbing lions, which are occasionally seen relaxing on the branches of acacia trees.

Other animals found in this area include elephants, leopards, impalas, hippos, and millions of birds especially pelicans and flamingos. The scenery of this park with its Alkaline Lake including its five vegetation zones is compared to a scenic gem with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as 'the loveliest I had seen in Africa'.

The park also has the Tanzania's highest population of elephants per square kilometer. In the afternoon enjoy your first-bush picnic lunch. Continue with game viewing. In the evening leave the park and drive to your lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight in Manyara.

DAY 2 -- Manyara - Serengeti National Park

Early morning breakfast then collect your lunch boxes and start a 205 kms drive, to the Great Serengeti National Park. Drive through the Ngorongoro rainy forest then continue up to the Ngorongoro/Serengeti plains. There you start game viewing all the way en-route before Seronera area.

Depending on the Serengeti's animals migration season here you will begin to witness the migration. In the afternoon stop-over for picnic lunch. The park contains an estimated three million large animals, most of which take part in the seasonal migration that is one of wonders of nature.

Drive to Seronera arriving to your Lodge or Campsite located in the heart of Serengeti for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3 -- Serengeti - Olduvai - Ngorongoro Conservation

After breakfast leave the lodge at 8:00hrs with picnic lunch. On this day, as you continue to Olduvai Gorge, start to explore the Serengeti vast animal-rich plains where you can see all the big five which are the elephants, lions, leopards, giraffe, buffalo including cheetah and more.

Serengeti National Park has about 35 species of plains animals from the hare to the elephant and a wonderful selection of bird life. Drive to Olduvai Gorge to get a briefing about the discovering of the Nut-Cracker-Man "Zinanthropus". The human fossil has been estimated to be 1.75m years old.

Here you can have your picnic lunch at the picnic site. Thereafter leave Olduvai Gorge and proceed to Ngorongoro - arriving on time for dinner and overnight at the Lodge or Campsite.

DAY 4 -- Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

After breakfast descent 610m/2000ft down into the Crater. Full morning Crater tour where you will see the plain animals including the Africa's black-manned lions, elephants, buffaloes wildebeest and hartebeest.

In the afternoon enjoy your picnic lunch at the site. Drive around the Soda Lake to watch the flamingos and other fish birds. At 16:00hrs ascend the crater walls and return to Arusha.

DAY 1 -- Arusha - Manyara National Park

Depart from Arusha with picnic lunch boxes and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzania safari experience.

Contrasting with the intimacy of the forest is the grassy floodplain and its expansive views eastward, across the Alkaline Lake, to the jagged blue volcanic peaks that rise from the endless Maasai Steppes. Large buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds congregate on these grassy plains, as do giraffes - some so dark in colour that they appear to be black from a distance.

As you witness and enjoy all this natural beauties, drive across the acacia trees strip in search of tree climbing lions of Lake Manyara National Park. In the afternoon break for picnic lunch and then continue with game drive. In the evening leave the park and proceed to your lodge or campsite booked in advance for dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara.

DAY 2 -- Lake Manyara - Serengeti

Early morning drive into Lake Manyara Park. Continue further on to visit the hot springs. Return to the lodge for late breakfast.

Shortly after breakfast, collect your picnic lunch and proceed to Serengeti via the slope of Ngorongoro's rainy forest and later to the vast animal-rich plains then enter into the Serengeti National Park.

Game drive en-route the Serengeti plains - in search of the leopards and cheetahs. In the evening proceed to Seronera for dinner and overnight at the Lodge or Campsite.

DAY 3 -- Serengeti - Game Drive

Full morning-drive to explore the vast rich game animals of Serengeti plains. In the afternoon return to your lodge for hot lunch.

At about 16:00hrs leave your lodge and drive to watch some of the 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.

In the evening leave the park and drive back to your lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight stay at Seronera.

DAY 4 -- Serengeti - Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge

After breakfast, collect your picnic lunch and proceed to Ngorongoro. Game drive en-route the Serengeti/Ngorongoro plains. Visit Olduvai Gorge to get a briefing about the discovery of the fossil Homo habilis dated 1.75 million years.

This were uncovered Leakey 1959. Picnic lunch at the site and thereafter, continue to Ngorongoro arriving in time for dinner and overnight at the lodge or campsite on the rim of the Crater.

DAY 5 -- Ngorongoro Crater Tour - Arusha

In the morning collect your packed luncha and drive over the rim of the Crater descending 610m/2000ft. The Ngorongoro Crater is 2286m above sea-level. It is the largest unbroken caldera in the world.

Surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the crater floor, this natural amphitheatre covers an area of about, 100 square miles, in diameter and is home to up to 25,000 large mammals, almost half of them zebras and wildebeests. There are also gazelles, buffaloes, elands, hartebeests, warthogs, and others.

Such concentrated numbers attract predators, mainly lions and hyenas but also cheetahs and leopards. More than 100 species of birds not found in the Serengeti have been spotted here. Countless flamingoes form a pink blanket over the Soda Lakes.

Therefore during the full morning crater tour you will be able to enjoy nature's beauties in this naturally unfenced zoo. In the afternoon stop at one of the sites to enjoy your picnic lunch. At 16:00hrs leave the crater as you ascend the wall of the Crater and drive back to Arusha.

Early morning game-drive in Tarangire National Park, searching for leopards. Return to your lodge for late breakfast before 11:00hrs. Leave Tarangire lodge and drive to Ngorongoro. Stop at Mto wa Mbu to visit the local market.

Later on proceed to Highview Hotel for lunch and leisure. In the evening continue to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight in one of the lodges or campsites located on the rim of the Crater.

DAY 3 -- Ngorongoro - Serengeti National park

After breakfast collect your picnic lunch. Descend 610m/2000ft down into the Ngorongoro Crater base. In the crater the Lerai Forest on the crater floor gets its name from the Maasai word for the elegant yellow-barked acacia tree.

Elephants often graze in the forest shade during midday, emerging into the open plains during the early hours of morning and in the evening, as the midday heat abates. The small forest patches on the crater floor are home to leopard, monkey, baboon and antelope such as waterbuck and bushbuck.

Afternoon picnic lunch, then leave the Crater and proceed to Seronera for a game drive en-route the Serengeti. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge or Campsite.

DAY 4 -- Serengeti - Full Day Tour

After breakfast, drive into Serengeti National Park. The Seronera Area, located in the heart of Serengeti is the place where you will be able to witness the Serengeti's animals great migration depending on migratory seasons. Return to your lodge for afternoon lunch.

At 16:00hrs drive in the Park to watch the lovely birds of Serengeti - estimated to be 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.
